The Shout Out About Bladder Cancer campaign will be closing on 18 September 2015.
Thank you for your help in raising awareness of bladder cancer and the many issues we need to tackle. Our limited funds mean that we have come to the end of our joint campaign but all partner charities will continue to work hard to shout out about bladder cancer. The money raised through the campaign will be used to fund crucial research into the disease so that fewer people will have to die from it.
There is still much to do. The mortality rate for bladder cancer is 50% and over 5,000 people die every year. Yet we still have to fight to get any coverage in the media, and there is a significant lack of funding for research into bladder cancer or new treatments available for patients.
If you would like to learn more about or support any of the three partner charities and find out how we are continuing to shout out about bladder cancer please visit our websites at the bottom of this page.
Thank you for being part of the campaign. Please keep shouting.
Bladder cancer recurs more often than any other cancer. It is the most expensive cancer for the NHS to treat yet receives only 0.6% of cancer research funding and the main treatments haven’t changed for 35 years. Every year in the UK over 10,000 people will be diagnosed with this cancer, and half that number will die from the disease.
Despite being a very common cancer, most people haven’t heard of it. It is the only top 10 cancer where the prognosis is getting worse, yet no one wants to talk about it.
Don’t you think it’s time to make some noise?
For too long the world has been silent about bladder cancer, resulting in thousands of people dying from it needlessly. We have to shout out about bladder cancer to change this.
Our aims are:
To recognise bladder cancer as a very common cancer that can affect anyone
To increase knowledge of the causes and symptoms to save lives
To improve the quality of life for people affected by bladder cancer
To get more research money to fund new and better treatments
To fund research into the causes and pathways of the disease
Perhaps even find a cure
Find out everything you need to know about bladder cancer …
From donating money, to putting up a poster or sharing our message on social media, there are so many ways you can help us with our campaign. Why not donate some time or do your own fundraising? We have great ideas for things you can do to make some noise – helping make a difference to thousands of people affected by bladder cancer.
£20 will help us provide a bladder cancer information and support pack to nurses
£50 will fund one hour of research into the causes and treatments for bladder cancer
£100 will help support a newly diagnosed bladder cancer patient and their family
£250 will help us set up a local support group
Today thousands of people affected by bladder cancer are putting their weight behind a campaign that aims not only to raise awareness but also to save lives.
The Shout Out About Bladder Cancer campaign has been launched by three charities who have come together to help bring a much needed spotlight to this very common, but hardly talked about cancer.Read more
